About GMS Software
GMS Software was founded by Chris Whatling in 1992. Originally established as General Micro Systems (GMS), the company specialised in the design and development of microprocessor-based control and monitoring systems for a wide range of industries.
Over the years, GMS designed and manufactured systems for telecommunications companies, computer manufacturers, vehicle manufacturers, the textile and paper industries, Ministry of Defence test facilities and many other industrial sectors. This strong engineering background established the principles that still guide the company today – reliability, innovation and practical solutions to real business problems.
As computer technology evolved, our focus increasingly shifted towards business software. We developed a business management system called AME (Accounts Made Easy), designed to provide small and medium-sized businesses with a powerful yet intuitive way to manage their operations. The success of AME led to the formation of GMS Software as a separate company in 2004, dedicated to the ongoing development and support of our software products.
Today, our primary focus is the motor trade. We develop comprehensive management software for independent garages, commercial vehicle workshops and bodyshops throughout the UK.
Our software has been continually developed for over 20 years, evolving alongside our customers to meet changing business needs, integrate with leading accounting systems such as Sage and Xero, and keep pace with new legislation, including Making Tax Digital.
Unlike many software suppliers, our software is developed entirely in-house in the UK and supported by the people who build it. This means our customers receive knowledgeable, personal support from a team that understands the software inside and out.
